| Look, I'm Posting! |
[Sep. 1st, 2006|11:25 am] |
Wow, I'm actually posting in my LJ rather than just logging in and reading Penelope's (because I miss her and like to know what's going on in her life, when she's not on AIM and b/c we both don't like the phone and she's not here in CT so I could actually talk w/ her in person)
Life here at Saint Joseph's this past first week has been interesting. My very first day of class (it was for religion) me and this adult named Rhonda, were waiting for the class to start in the room that our schedule said. Our schedules lied. We figured that out 5 min. after the class was supposed to start, so we walked over to the library to try to log on to campus web and find out where it really was. Campus web wouldn't log us on. So, then we proceeded to go to another building and find out. (It's like the main office-ish building) She found out (there's a board posted w/ all the room changes apparently) and we went. The professor was nice about it, which was comforting. Especailly to me b/c I am a freshman. (Ah, the perks) We had 'Convocation' which also was a direction dilema. I found out we have a very nice looking mace. Yes mace as in the weapon. It's one of the symbols of the school apparently. (Oh yes, bluejays and maces go together) There was a good lunch afterwards...Nora sat with me, so I felt very special. =P I love Nora, she's just cool.
My FYS 'War Through Women's Eyes' is going to be my favorite I think. My teacher is really cool.
Religion 'Jesus in Contemporary Thought' is going to be mind-stimulating. (Finally a class that I can think in!!)
Philosophy-the teacher is STRANGE. But humourous...in a weird way. That class should be interesting.
Psychology-Seems to be just like another class. We read the textbook, discuss and have online quizzes.
English-Sounds like a lot of work, but hey--it's honors. And no, I'm not in the Honors "Program" Stupid Smart people.
I start my work-study in the registrar's office on Tues. I can tell I already like the people who work there. :) That'll bring me in some nice extra cash, and I'm starting babysitting for the Kozak's the 18th. Inbetween now and then I'll be babysitting for the Marrero's. It'll be sweet b/c I haven't had any income lately. And I have gas and car insurance and I have to buy a cellphone.
After class I'm going to Ocean State to buy the school stuff I don't have. There's a $1 going on and my mom gave me $20. I'll never use all of it though.
Woo...that's enough for now. |

| | "Who Am I"-Casting Crowns | ] | I haven' updated in freaking forever. I hate how I use the word 'freaking'....I even use it when I talk...that, and 'crap'. They're words that just really annoy me, yet I still say them. Anyway-what's new...
Thursday I took my license test and I passed! SWEETNESS. FREEDOM. It's a whole long drawn out process....I thought I failed the written and technically I did, but the inspector guy let me slide b/c his boss said I could?....weird but I'm not complaining. I was the last one to test out of 10 or 12...almost all of which were adult Indian people whose IDP (international license) had expired b/c they've been in this country a year. I was talking to one woman who said in India they don't drive w/ shoes and there are no signs or anything, just lights and people drive crazy. She said "America's a nice place to live, but there are too many rules and restrictions." Well lady--duh, we're a democracy--either you like it or you don't. America suits me quite fine, even though we're messed up--but all countries are messed up (maybe not Australia, but other than that pweh) My inspector dude was nice the test was so easy, I got a 100%. I uh switched lanes, back parked and drove back to the school. The dude I had the day before, Steve, for practicing was nice--he gave me the art of backparking--it's super easy now. Stacey's dropping off my car sometime soon this week--so I'm getting the license and registration at the same time. Sweet freedom. Today I have to: -wash the kitchen floor -clean my room -read 'The Great Gatsby' -work on my Patrick Henry paper
To the latter, I totally don't want to...oh well, I have a few weeks! (and I already started, so BAH) |

| This is Sad |
[Apr. 26th, 2006|06:21 pm] |
I was reading the quick little blurbs about the national news on cox.net and I found this disturbing one about a college freshmen whose body was found in a PA landfill. Authorities really don't know what happened, however "The injuries that Fiocco's body had sustained were consistent with being processed by a trash disposal system, authorities said." Can you imagine being processed?? Ugh--that just sends shivers down my back. |

Got report cards today: Band-100 American Lit-88 (not bad seeming as I made stupid mistakes on quizzes and I did no hw) AMPU-95 World Politics-91 Pre-Calc-85 Choir-97 Gym-90 Botany-91
Yay...seeing the 100's Mr. Krupa gives all the time makes me happy. :) I don't even try in band...he just likes me. And in WP we hardly do anything--I just suck at the game we're playing. (Strategic Command)
Getting the key to my soon-to-be car tomorrow. Now I just have to wait for the stupid DMV to get back to me. XD
I want to go to youth group Fri....I need a ride to Manchester somehow!! I'm gonna call a bunch of people up...tomorrow?
I'm gonna be a Sunday School teacher starting in June. I'm wicked excited! A couple of my friends got asked too...maybe we'll be together.
I'm babysitting for the 1st time in like 2 1/2 weeks....MONEY @_@

| | "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever" | ] | Ahh..haven't updated for awhile. Stuff's been going on-yes. I said stuff.
Last night was HAF's fellowship fundraiser after service. It was a lot of fun, I got to work hamburg buns with my friend Alex (who handeled the burgers and cheese)He kept messing up on who wanted a cheeseburger and who didn't, so I had to hit him repeatedly. =P Then, he kept singing annoying and jabbing me in the ribs....a visiting Pastor thought we were brother and sister, which was funny. I got spooked by my friend Kelsey, who crept up behind me and jumped on me. I got to talk w/ one of my lil bro's about scars...along with school, baseball and concussions! Very smart for an almost 10 yr old. Today was the first day of CAPT testing so I only had to go 4 classes. Math was first, which was horrible. Ms. Noonan was so funny...she called the office and was like "Hi, this is Eileen Noonan. I think I have died and gone to Hell because it is so hot. Can you do something about it?" The whole class just kinda stared at her...she is a wee bit odd. I'm so glad I don't have math at 7:20 usually. XD Choir was drawn out and boring--like it always is. Drug Ed. we handed in our children's book "The Mis-Adventures of Molly Mouse" and did more rescue breathing/chest compressions. I watched a part of the video I miss like 3 weeks ago since there was nothing else to do. So, I made up a class within a class-SWEET. XD Botany was grand. We learned more about leaves. We have a stupid worksheet to do for Wed. We looked at leaves under microscopes. 2 of them were sparkaley, which was pretty cool... Oh, I handed in my class dues finally. I'm now out $30. Oh well, that's what you get for being responsible and telling your Mom you'd paid your own way. Well, at least it's only $30. A lot of people I saw had to pay all 4 yrs. worth ($280) Yay for selling candy! =P Even though I bet 1/2 of it throughout the years was bought my me...=P I'm 1/2 way done with my english hw. I still have to organize my AMPU portfolio and do botany. My eyes hurt. I'm tired. Crap. |

| YG Sleepover/Parent's Dinner |
[Feb. 25th, 2006|09:33 pm] |
The YG sleepover was a lot of fun, it was nice not having too many people there. There were about 15 girls and only a couple guys. After Mom dropped me off, I hung around for a little bit and talked with my friends and once everyone started showing up we split up and went to work doing prep work for the next day. I got to use the chair cart/roller thing, although Alex had to help me out b/c I'm awkward....and he was the only guy who wasn't busy. Then, I got put on chicken duty--we were making swiss chicken and we had to prep it to be fried. After that, I forgot really what we did...the guys went over to the YC to play pingpong and I gave my friend a back massage and then we all got ready for bed and watched Swiss Family Robinson. I fell asleep 3/4 of the way through it and when I woke up (probably around 5) I was like "hey, the movie's over!!" I had a dream about Chihuahuas...because I was talking w/ someone who said they wanted to buy one. The next morning I woke up and helped make eggs for everyone. More later... |

| | Spirited Away | ] | Vacation has been interesting. Saturday was by far the best day so far, hanging out with Penelope. Actually no, well, Sunday night was incredible for me, so....that's a tie! Monday was the day I went to St Joe's with Anne-Marie. Her dad picked me up and we stopped at Dunkin Donuts, where I proceeded to get an iced mocha latte. When her father said that into the drive thru thing, the lady taking the order laughed, as to say "who would buy something iced on a morning like this?" well, I would! I didn't feel like something hot!! Driving there, he took a wrong turn, but it was okay, we got there on time none-the-less. I met my admissions counselor, who was such a cute person. Really, the word "cute" is perfect for her...she was equally excited to meet me as I was to meet her. For an "ice-breaker" (I find them really annoying) we did a 'let's meet other people and fill in bingo pieces that describe us' thing. I won...therefore I won a St Joe's coffee mug w/ candy in it--tasty! We signed up for our classes. I decided to take 2 religion classes, a writing class and psychology. Let me explain them: The 1st class was called 'Christian Faith in the Modern World'. It was taught by an old chinese priest. I thought it was interesting, it was like the history of the formation of the church...I think I'd take it when I go. (You're mandatory to take 2 religion classes--it IS a Catholic school) However, I kinda didn't pay attention because the girl next to me who was one of our guide-upper-classman person started talking to me. She asked me if I was Christian and I said yes and she said what and I said Pentecostal. And she said "Sweet, me too!" so we went back and forth for like 20 min. (in whispers of course) no one seemed to mind and Nora (her name) still asked and answered questions that the professor asked. Then, I went on to my second religion class 'Contemporary Christian Moral Methods/Issues' which was interesting because the class had visitors from CRS. (Catholic Relief Services) There was a guy from Ghana talking about how CRS helped him in life and a very perky white woman named Candace. I had my pic. taken with the group, even though I'm not really a student there--oh well, you might find me on a website somewhere. After, it was off to another building to go to the 'Art of Effective Writing'. I was excited about the class, but it the end I was sorely dissapointed. It was SO BORING. The teacher talked about thesis statements and how to make it effective. Seriously, I learned this freshman year; in fact Ms. Devine used the same funnel illustration--I wonder if she got it from him? No one in the class seemed to care anyway--I know I didn't. Off to lunch!! I stood in a really long line with Anne-Marie that was deemed the "good food line worth waiting for" and I got linguini. Good, but too much lemon sauce--very lemony. The pea pods were good too--and I got some desserts! ^_^ Finally, I went to introductory to psychology, which was my favorite out of the four. I was the only prospective student in the class. Even though they spent the first 10 min. taking a quiz, the teacher did a whole bunch of demonstrations about memory. (which was the chapter they were on) I really liked it...very interesting stuff! So, I met up w/ Anne-Marie, who hadn't enjoyed her last class b/c all the teacher did was hand out worksheets. And we decided to go on a tour that someone was holding. We went various places....I used my 20% off coupon that they gave us in the bookstore. I found out that I could easily get a job there! :sweet: doing basically anything I wanted.
Off that day note.... I went to Ms. Smart's house and picked up a book that I wanted to read. And her dogs slobbered all over me. She was a lil weiner dog!!! I saw Shusha's puppies! They're SO tiny, with their eyes closed--she had 4 boys. I sold all my Munson's bars for youth choir! I was worried I wasn't going to be able to sell them because 1. It's vacation week. 2. I HATE going door to door, it makes me feel stupid. 3. Even if I sell them next week, people are selling Hershey's but even though my chocolate is of better quality, it's .50 more and we're talking a high school audience.
So how did I do it!? Ahh..the joys of mass e-mail!!
Yay!! My new boombox and one of my cd's came in the mail today! :is happy: My new boombox is small and silver and cute. Plus, it takes up less room on my bookcase! =P Booked reservations for April's trip to Lancaster with my Mom. It's a quaint lil place, I'm excited to go. Then, 10 min. later I got a call from the guy who owns the B&B saying he'd made our reservations official. What service!! Atleast, I was impressed.... Baby-sat for an hr 1/2 for 2 girls and 2 boys...we went to the park after the Mom of the boys didn't allow me to bring them to the ferry. >_< I'm sick of going to the park. Played about 10 games of hide and go seek tag XD I really need to excercise more! Went to B&N with my Mom and I the classics were down to $1 since I guess they REALLY overstocked them. I got Robinson Crusoe and The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes. I've always wanted to read Sherlock Holmes...now I can at my own pleasure. I also got a For Better or For Worse book for my Mom since she loves that comic and it was on the bargain rack. Flippin' computer says it's infected even though I know it's not b/c the only way to 'solve' the problem is to BUY the software....SO ANNOYING I WISH IT WOULD STOP. Maybe I'll call Penelope...she is skilled in the ways of the computer. I've loved sleeping in!!! Mornings have consisted of reading and watching back-to-back episodes of Little House on the Prarie and evenings have been reading and watching 3 hrs. worth of the Olympics. Vacation is nice. Tomorrow should be fun--YG Sleepover!!! :sweet: |

| My Supposed Twin |
[Feb. 20th, 2006|08:14 pm] |
=P This made me smile...and laugh. I went to go talk with one of my friends and the first thing she said was "Oh.My.Goodness." and I go "What?" and she said that she found my twin. I said "Oh, the one that works at Olive Garden?" (b/c I've been told there's one there) and she said "No, the one who won the US Gold in Snowboarding Halfpipe!" and I go "Cool!" she said her and her husband both looked at the t.v. and said "Woah, it's Diane!!" Supposedly she looks just like me and talks just like me. I wish I'd have seen her run. But anyway, here's her pic: http://www.nbcolympics.com/2005/1110/5059092_135X180.jpg I downloaded a video interview of her to see what she sounds like and I do talk like her....XD So yeah!!
....Personally, I want to meet my twin @ the Olive Garden...supposedly she's a good waitree too! =P

| Free Saturday |
[Feb. 18th, 2006|11:38 pm] |
Yawr.
Today I had a free Saturday all to myself! I didn't even realize until last night, when my friend asked me what I was doing and I thought "Wow....I HAVE A FREE SATURDAY!!" =P It made me really happy!
I slept in...after being woken up by my Mom being loud in the kitchen laughing at one of the cats. >_< I found there was nothing really on t.v. to watch, so I continued reading a book I had started the night before I couldn't fall asleep. It's really good, it's about the persecuted Christian church in China. So, around noon-ish, I called Penelope to see what she was up to. She laughed b/c apparently a lot of people had been calling her that morning. She said she was going to the park to film something for class and I said that I'd walk down and join her. So, I bundled up and walked down in the sub-zero weather where I stood watch while she filmed her "hit and run" commercial for intro to tech, which I found...interesting. I wonder if people notice the chalk outline of a person in the middle of the road. O.o I'd think it kinda weird.... We then proceeded to go to the local Citgo to get cappachinos *sweet goodness* and then came back to my house. We decided we both wanted to go see Curious George, so we looked up times. Then, we went to Goodwill (one of the best stores EVA) where I got L'estranger, a cute Bible and a Christian shirt that I thought was cool, although my Mom said it was too tight on me. >_< Yeah right. Penelope got a couple cool shirts and a random cd b/c she liked the picture (You don't buy cds for music anyway, right? ;) ) So, we went back to her house, where she proceeded to call for her industrial piercing and activiate her debit card...which was amusing to listen to. I found out that our SSN's are very similar, which is kinda scary...seeming of all the numbers that are avaliable. So we went to see Curious George for the matinee price and it was really cute. George was just adorable and the man in the yellow hat's lines were really funny. We were the only people there w/o parents, therefore the only ones over the age of I'd say 6 or 7. They were all really quiet overall and it was cute to hear the reactions of a little girl behind me. The animation was really smooth too, I liked it. It's not Disney like, nor Dreamworks like, however it was more Dreamworks than Disney. Speaking of Disney, one of the pre-preview things said that in TLK, Timon takes out a bug that has Mickey Mouse ears on it...I'm going to check that out! Weird. After the movie, we stopped at a little Chinese takeout place for some food, since I hadn't eaten all day and I had a headache. I got pork fried rice and an egg roll-which I was happy was not greasy. The Family Dollar was closed, which was weird b/c it was only around 7 pm and Ocean State was not very interesting--they overstocked on pens I must admit. I stayed up to watch the Olympics (I only watch sports during the Olympics and UCONN women's basketball) b/c I wanted to see the speedskating short track, which of course the finals were the 2nd to last event of all of prime time. Apolo got bronze :( ...darn Koreans! During the Olympic wait time I reorganized one of my bookcases and got a bag of books to donate to the library. I'm still on an everquest of classics and old books. I'm an odd collector, I must say...a bibliophile for sure! =P Yarg. |
